Nursing Theorists

Why study Nursing Theory?

In the book Nursing Theories and Nursing Practice, the authors discuss the importance of studying nursing theory and applying nursing theory to clinical practice. According to Smith, "Any discipline includes networks of philosophies, theories, concepts, approaches to inquiry, research findings, and practices that both reflect and illuminate its distinct perspective." Smith further explains, "the discipline of nursing is formed by a community of scholars, including nurses in all nursing venues, who share a commitment to values, knowledge, and processes to guide the thought and work of the discipline" (Smith, 2020). *example of an in-text citation
