Assignment Description

For this assignment you will need to find specific types of resources and then provide a citation and synopsis, for each one. This assignment is worth 10% of your course grade. These resources may be used for course papers. This is a two-page assignment, the first page should identify and explain the journals/books and the second is the reference page based on APA 7th edition

In this guide you will find information about the following:

  • Retrieving a peer-reviewed article from a database
  • Identifying a classic source
  • Locating a primary source
  • Locating a secondary source
  • Creating a Reference page in APA format

Sometimes there will be overlap between sources. Secondary/Classic sources may have primary source material.

Classic Source

Classic works are ones that have had a major impact in a field of study.

As you go through your program, you will become familiar with classic works because they will be mentioned frequently in textbooks, research articles, and other resources.

It is more difficult to identify classic articles as a new student.  Here are some hallmarks of classic works:

  • frequently cited by other authors
  • written by major theorists or researchers
  • often called influential, seminal, or groundbreaking in literature reviews

  • Check how often the article has been cited using Google Scholar. The more an article has been cited, the more influential it is to be considered. Click on 'Cited by' and see if you can find additional resources that support your research.

  • Locating an additional primary source that reflects the theorists own views of the theory that has emerged from their work is also considered a classic source.
