Evidence Based Practice

Introduction

"Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an approach that guides the decision-making of healthcare personnel to use the best available research evidence along with clinical expertise, and the unique values and preferences of the patient" (Chien, 2019).

Research studies show that evidence-based practice (EBP) leads to:

  • higher quality care
  • improved patient outcomes
  • reduced costs
  • greater nurse satisfaction than traditional approaches to care

(Melnyk et al., 2010).
